Three Prophetic Words for Mansfield
Sometime in early 2017, when we finally knew for sure that the Lord Jesus was sending us to plant as a new church in Mansfield, I asked the Lord, “Why Mansfield?” Mansfield is blessed with numerous great churches—why another one? Here’s what he said:
- Mansfield is a fruitful field. Literally, its name, carries its promise. It is the “field of man” that is becoming “God’s field” as we partner with him. Mansfield was originally spelled “Mansfeild” after Ralph Mann and Julian Feild, but the Post Office finally succumbed to popular (mis)spelling and rearranged the “i” and “e”—presto, Mansfield!
- Mansfield will have global impact for the kingdom of God. The City of Mansfield will bear fruit around the world through the ministry of its churches, but specifically through para-church/missions organizations that will spring up here. Mansfield will be known as an epicenter of world missions.
- This will happen through the unity of the churches. Mansfield has an epic opportunity right now that few cities ever have: our Mayor, David Cook, has mobilized the pastors of Mansfield through Mansfield Churches FOR the City, a cross-denominational organization that meets the first Thursday of each month to pray and plan together. The potential for actual, fruitful Christian unity is limitless. Over the next couple of years, the Holy Spirit will be calling the churches to unprecedented cooperation, and through that cooperation, genuine, lasting revival will ignite. This revival will be characterized by its local and global missions efforts and powerful, personal encounters with the living Presence of God. Dead religion will be consumed in the fire of his Presence!
Since we launched Freedom Life Church in September 2017, I have heard the echoes of this three-part word over and over. There is always spiritual opposition to what God is doing, but I truly see in the Spirit that God has gone before us and the way is already open. The Father is releasing his church to exercise the dominion of King Jesus in this city. Racial divides are being healed. Economic stratification is being leveled. Old strongholds of injustice are being thrown wide open for the King of glory to come in and occupy the center of power in this community. The prayers of our family, church and city leaders have been heard! The Lord of Armies is marching forward. He is fighting for us. “Aslan is on the move!”
Keep your eyes on Mansfield. God is doing a great work here. And our prayers are with every church in this city, every pastor and congregational leader. The churches in Mansfield are not in competition with each other. We are partners and fellow-laborers in Christ.
Father, let every church in this city and in our tri-county region (Mansfield sits within Tarrant, Johnson and Ellis counties) experience powerful, personal encounters with the living God. Let the empty routines of dead religion give way to powerful, Spirit-ignited experiences with God. Let the lost be called to Christ through the love we show each other and the mercy we extend to them. Let the poor in this city be blessed so that every need is met. Let the sick be healed. Let the oppressed be lifted up. Let injustice be broken forever in this city. Let righteousness reign. Let Jesus be glorified!
Get ready, Mansfield!
